A native of Belle Rose, Louisiana, Doris
Boudreaux Cowan is an authentic cajun.
She put aside a career in nursing, to
marry and raise for children. It was at
this time that she that she traded sewing
lessons for art lessons from a high school
classmate, Polly Johnson. Polly Johnson
"hooked her on art". Doris studied art
with Al Federico and in workshops with
Roberts Woods, Juddi Betts, Tony Couch,
Jeanne Dobi, Milford Zornes and Doug
Walton. She also studied nursing and for
20 years worked at East Jefferson
Hospital. After she left nursing she went
back to painting. She is know for her
wonderful watercolors, has a faithful
following of collectors and she is also
proficient in batiking and painting in
oils and acrylics. She has exhibited
widely and is winner of over 100 awards
in juried shows. She has traveled
extensively, painting in almost all the
states including Hawaii, Europe, Canada
and Mexico. Her paintings can be found
in corporate and private collections
around the world. Doris has the
distinction of being a member of "Penn
women of America" and she is a board
member of the New Orleans Art
Association and numerous artists guilds.
At 73 she is no longer a teenager but her
golden years are awash with colors and
textures that reflect her perception of
reality from a seldom encountered among
young painters. Her works and her style
speaks volumes of her talent and
versatility! She is a prolific painter and
her fishes, frogs and butterflies populate
Doris art pond. They will also decorate
your walls and bring the mystery of the
bayous wherever you are! Bon chance!
