Orestes Vergel is a Cuban-American
painter and sculptor. He received a
Fine Arts Degree from the Art School
of San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba in
1972. He taught painting at the
Museum of Plastic Arts "Ernest
Hemingway".

He began to work early, and between
1962 and 1980, he participated in 80
expositions in Cuba and some foreign
countries. The most eminent places
are: Liceum Land Tennis Club,
Pavilion Cuba, Circulo of Bellas
Artes, National Association of Plastic
Artists (UNEAC), National Museum
of Havana, Gallery of Justice Ministry
of Havana, Gallery "Group
Landscape".,Gallery Amelia Pelaez,
National Institute, National Plastic
Arts Contest, where participated as
Juror, Seminary of Ceramic,
Provincial of Culture. He has
participated in expositions in Mexico,
Germany and Rumania.

Vergel worked for the Institute of the
Book Havana, where he made
illustrations for the books: "Goddess".
"Men and Sun", by Vivian Acosta
(Medal of Bronze winner).

Working for the Institute of Art and
Cinematography Industry (ICA_IC)
Vergel prepared the stage with about
20 vigour designers.

Some of his works, ave been placed in
eminent places as: international
Airport "Jose Marti, in Havana, Cuba,
Library "Siboney". His works stand
out in several private collections in
Spain, Holland and United States.

Orestes Vergel, had living in New
Orleans, Louisiana many years ago
and he is a lover of New Orleans.
During Hurricane Katrina on 2005, he
lost most of his works, but he is
rebuilding an restoring some of his
paintings that he salvaged from the
floods and his beginning to produce
his famous landscapes in watercolors
to make his work more affordable
while retain its vivid colors and  
creative compositions.

The Ghini Family has been purchasing
his works during the last 15 years and
presently posses the largest existing
collection of this virtuous and
unassuming painter.
